Hello all, I've been researching rays on here and I was looking at getting a Histrix but have read they are very hard to find. So I'm Looking at getting a retic. Right now I have a empty 125, 6ft long, 18in deep, 24in tall. Im trying to get a 220 for it as I know it'll need a wider tank, but how long could I keep it in a 125 as I'm having trouble locking down a 220.

Edit:
Change the 125 to a 150 with a 30 gallon sump. L6'xW18'xH30", I can move my fish from my 150 into the 125 to give the ray more water volume.

You could keep one in that tank for a couple of years max as long as well filtered and that you do big water changes 50-75 % couple times a week.

However you will find that it would not grow as quick as if it were in larger aquarium from the beginning.

It will be hard on water quality due to the small water volume and large amounts of ammonia that rays produce. Try to get as small a pup as possible and ideally get a male if you have the choice as they tend to be smaller Rays.

Thanks for the info. I've pretty much decided to hold off on a ray until I can land my hands on 220. Since I most likely will be getting a retic, i want to give it as good of water quality that I can. I will for sure have a 75 gallon sump on it, if not a 100.

I like the idea of a pond in my house however I have a Labrador that loves the water so shell find anyway she can to get in it lol
