I have a male auratus that has been beating up my female kenyi as he is trying to breed with any of the available females in the tank. He gave her a fat bottom lip and continues to chase her. I decided to catch him and put him in a breeder net in my main tank giving the other fish a breather until I decide what to do with him. How long can I keep him in there before he gets too stressed out? I have a 75 gallon Mbuna community tank with about 14 cichlids between 3-4" each, an 8" tinfoil barb and two 2" Bala sharks. I plan to get rid of the barb and sharks and am growing out 10 demasoni and 10 red zebra fry to introduce into the tank. I was hoping to keep the auratus but may need to get rid of him. Can I keep him in there for a week? Or just keep an eye on him.
How long can I keep an unruly fish in a breeder net?
