How long can it take...

for a 12-13" long Fire Eel to adjust enough to want to eat?

I recently purchased a 13" fire eel, after my other two 7"ers jumped and were eaten by the cats. I've had him for 2 weeks now, and he still wont take food. I've offered frozen bloodworms, frozen mysis shrimp, market shrimp, jumbo brine shrimp, and earthworms, and he isn't touching any of them. He did take a piece of market shrimp, but promptly spat it back out.

The place I got him from had him on bloodworms, so in theory he should be taking my bloodworms with no issues.

I'm just afraid of him starving himself. I don't know how long one this size can go without food before issues arise.

Omgosh, the cat ate it?! I hope ours never thought of suicide...Our butterfly fish did though! Did you try a water change? Hows the temperature?

I did a water change the day before he arrived, and one a couple days ago (I do a 50% once a week). Temperature is at 76f

Try ghost shrimp, we used to give our old one those as a treat. And if you haven't have already give him a good hiding spot where he can feel safe.

Try raising the temp up to 82-83 degrees. Mine did the same thing and is eating just fine now.

just wait he still getting use to the tank. I had 1 fire eel not eat for a month and he was fine.

Or try live black worms the wiggle and could entice him
