How long can most plants live inside those black pot things? or do i have to get the pant names?

Net pots? Most can live in there pretty much indefinitely but you should give them the freedom to grow and grow out their roots without the pot. Specific plant names could get you more information. The only reason really they are in pots is that they are easy for them to grow and sell, rather than just giving you the plant portion.

of course this is all assuming you put the plant in an aquarium, not just sitting on the counter out in the open lol.

They will do OK in them, but I would recommend taking them out of the pots and removing the growing media.

This is the same with jnon aquatic plants. They will survive in a pot, but for them to become better, plant them in the ground. More space = More roots.

Thanks I'll just end up leaving them in the pot tell i get more gravel to hide them a little

Terrestrial plants can get root-bound or develop spiral roots if left in containers too long... basically they grow in a spiral fashion and produce a big tangled mess of roots that have to be pruned away and ripped apart before planted, or else they will keep growing inward and not into the new media.

They can even strangle themselves, and the tangled roots can start rotting.

I wouldn't see why aquatic plants would be different - best to plant them ASAP for good plant health and establishment.

These plants wouldnt get spiral roots though, but they may become very hard to remove if you are gonna leave them for a long time. The roots will grow outside that pot and basically encase the net pot in roots. You wont be able to get it off without chopping of at least some of the roots. Swords, for example, can grow a significant root structure in a month. Mine used to pot out the ground when I got the tiny plants. I got them to stay down for a few days and for 3 weeks now, they hand come up. One fish put a few pieces of grave on top of the plant, I tried to pull it up a little so it wasnt buried. I couldnt move it already, for fear I would break the leaves or roots off.

I remove the pots because I don't like seeing the media (usually rock wool) floating around my tank. Also, I'm pretty anal and just don't like to see the black pots.

Root bound is what will happen......

Cant i just trim the back once i plant them? they are only going to be in the pot for a month or less. Tell i find the right area got them to work with. an i get more gravel
