How long can they live together peacefully??? If I buy a baby oscar that is an inch long and put him in a tank with 5 - 6 inch long dojo loaches???

The loaches never hide they sit out in the open and swim around all day. They are Sooooooo cute I just love them, but I really want an oscar. I want them both : ( , is there a way to have them both together.

Even if the oscar grows up with them, I guessing you all will say he will still kill them and eat them. Right???

Also If I have to get rid of them, will they do ok in my koi pond or will the winter be too cold for them here in South Carolina??? And if I got a baby oscar today when should I remove the loaches???

You're concerned that the Oscar will grow large enough to eat a 6 inch Dojo loach? I don't see that happening. I think they will be fine together. Maybe others will disagree.

That is Such GREAT News : ). That makes my day : ). I hope others will agree.

yeah so that font's real hard to read so maybe you said already but
what size is this tank?

Oscars are jerks = TRUE
Oscars eat everything = FALSE

The likelyhood that she picks on them when older, given a 75+gal tank, is small
The likelyhood that she eats them, if you feed her, is very very low

Thanks : ). It is a 100 gallon tank.

I have had Oscar since I can recall. Once he gets big enough he MIGHT kill, if not eat them. But since he is growing up with them, they MIGHT be ok! Fish are like people, each oscar is differenet and has different tempermants and attitudes. I have one now that is getting beat up daily by a flowerhorn that is not even 1/4 of the size. I have had some that were bullies themselves. All in all it is a gamble like any other when dealing with an agressive species, but I believe it is worth a shot!.. good luck

I know my Oscar mouths everything new in the tank, but quickly loses interest. Haven't had him eat anyone other than things I drop through the lid after teasing him. He know if it's in a bag for awhile, it's not food. So far.

But since they are growing together, the odds are even better he won't eat them. As long as you don't fast him too long on vacation sometime. ;) The loaches are already big and will probably put on another inch before the Oscar get his average 13", so that helps too. Keeping them around 78ºF?

Thanks everyone :), I am going to give it a try. This has really made my day :) .
