When it comes to fish in a bag...how long can they live in there before they run out of air?

It depends on the number of fish, species and their oxygen requirements, Ben. I did have some fish in the bags for 36-48 hours but that was because I was using our van and ship to travel thousands of miles instead of flights.

depends on the fish but i say about six hours with oxagen fish auctions have them in the bags longer but you always rebag them when you get them

If pure oxygen is used I would say about 24 hours, but I know of fish that have been in transit for close to 3 days safely.

w/oxy-6-8hours
w/o oxygen; 3 hours max

depends
size of fish
size of bag
# of fish
oxygen/not
type of fish
surrounding tempereature
wether or not you drop the bag

This is also something I wanted to know, thanks for asking the question, and thanks to the others for answering it 8)

this all depends like everyone else said. youve got to think, a bunch of companies ship fish, next day delivry, and have no problems, so thats at least 24 hrs. i have had a fish in a bag for like 5 HRS, dont ask.

Okay...let's say one fish per bag; 3"-6" in a 6 x 12 filled with just air.

I once traveled with a fish in a bag for 8 hours filled with air, but I'm not sure if it was oxygen.

If the fish starts to look 'suffocatey', open the bag and stir the surface of the water with a finger (or something cleaner) to oxygenate the water. Then re-inflate with lung air (it's still loaded with oxygen, trust me) and close 'er up for safe travels. I've done it. It helped a lot.
