He's about 5-6 inches long and I just set up a 30 gallon tank for him. I know he can't stay there for very long. I didn't realize what I was buying when I got him and I was told he could stay in a small tank (wouldn't out-grow his tank:bs: ). That was wrong but I love this fish so he's staying. I've been looking for a 125 but haven't found one yet that I'm willing to pay for.....so a 30 is better than what he has right now.

So how long will this 30 gallon tank last? At least 4 or 5 months? No longer feeding him live fish fwiw. Trying to get him on other stuff.

Ive been looking around to figure this out, i'm thinking of getting a clown knife, and have found that the consensus is that they generally grow about an inch per month. Of course it would vary based on happiness, diet, enviroenment, etc, but out of everything that I read thats what came up most; average. I'd at least get a 55 in the mean time, you can usually find them pretty cheap.

An inch/month is what I've read too. I know I need a much bigger tank but this just hopefully buys me a bit of time to decide what to get. Plus, I love fish and my current tanks are in the man-cave...so I'm hoping to have things work out in a way that allows me to just buy other fish for the smaller tanks when the ck vacates them. Ideally, I can milk this into 30>125>larger....not that my wife really cares anyway. It's my area and my spending cash.

Well, he started out with my other fish in a larger tank but the longer he was in there, the more I didn't think that was such a great idea. The guy at the fish store said a 10 gallon tank would be "perfect". So that's what he is in for just a bit longer. I feel like I have to say all that as a justification to a certain degree for doing something as silly as keeping him in a 10 gallon tank. :duh:

He does seem to be ok for the moment though. :)
