im trying to ween my belly crawlers of feeders, well not really ween pretty much go cold turkey with them. its only been a week but im wondering how long can they go without eating? everyone else in the tank is eating pellets, shrimp and even the frozen silver sides i drop in so i dont want to risk, especially my dat, getting hooked on feeders. the male showed some interest in the frozen silversides yesterday but turned his nose to them.

They should be fine for at least a few weeks without feeders.

And they should def start taking pellets. My belly crawler eats all kinds of prepared foods like a champ.

well i got them on the 15th and still nothing. i've tried frozen silversides, market shrimp, and sinking shrimp pellets and sinking hakari cichlid pellets. not sure what its going to take.

Sorry they are giving you so much trouble Sean. If it makes you feel any better I got a wild caught pair of parathreps catamaco and they did not eat for almost 9 weeks. I assume they were eating some alge but there was not much in there. I thought for sure they were just going to die, they would not touch anything I tried. Then one day one of them ate a pellet. Within the next 3 days all three of them were eating pellets. After a month of heavy feeding they a looking back to normal. It's shocking how long an adult fish can go without food.

I always had good luck getting pikes to eat krill or nightcrallers first. All of mine have eaten pellets within 2 weeks though. Just keep trying, as long as they are not sick they will cave in and eat before they starve to death.

i guess i'll buy some krill and night crawlers this weekend.

they hang with the bichirs who munch down on any pellet that hits the bottom. they're starting to looking skinnier than when i first got them.

after dangling silversides in front of them i went and fed my other fish. i ended up dropping in a cube of bloodworms and bingo they both went after them. at least they're eating something now.
