Picked up a small school of them today. I keep reading everything from they are seasonal fish to as much as seven years. Can anyone close the gap on this? I keep them with my angels and ghost, because neons get eaten.

if your neons were eaten, eventually the cardnals will be food also... Everytime I've kept cardinals they ended up being eated by some type of fish I was growing out with them (small geophagus, angels, and recently festivums, I figured these fish were to small to eat them, but I was wrong), so I'm not really sure on how old they can get to be.
Neither the ghost nor the angels touch them, but if I throw in a neon its gone by the next day. By the way is there a tetra forum here?
no tetra forum, however there is an "other characins" forum.. not too sure if you should post it there, see if anyone else has an input here. If nobody really chimes in, then try the other characins section.
I just finished saying they do not touch cardinals. There have been three in that tank for two years.
If my memory serves me correctly all neons are wild caught so you never really know how old the fish you just bought is if its full grown
