how long do scombs live

i read that they dont live very long in a fish tank. i was thinking about getting one at my lfs for 30 bucks. if they dont live very long i wont get it

they die easily.
they die at 12 inches max if they survive all the way there.
how LONG it takes can depend.

I think it is up in the air as for how long they will live for. I have had a few and some small ones 2'' died in a few weeks. I have also had a 4'' that i grew to 8-10'' and then killed it with a maracyn2 induced ammonia spike. My last ones got a fungus and one died and the other lived thru it all and i sold it at 8-9'' after owning it for a year or longer. I do not keep in touch with the new owner any more but for the first few months it was doing great.-------All in all if you have never kept a payara species or something else that most have never kept then i would stay away from it unless you are ready for a challenge. These fish are definetly not a chiclid or a goldfish.
