I only buy fish from 2 places that I trust. If I buy from anywhere else (very rarely), they get QT'ed for 3+.

Usually a couple weeks. Wilds get treatments of prazi and metro automatically. Captives or anything I'm unsure of it's origin are qt'ed and observed for white poop, ich, clamped fins, things of the such.
Never trust ANY LFS. I have a good "red light district" analogy, but I'm going to refrain from posting it. We'll just say that all lfs tanks have had lots of fish through them, and their systems have all been exposed to some sort of parasite at some point.

I QT most fish I get.. normally for 3 weeks.

Koi however get 6 -12 weeks.

I do my best to quarantine ANY new arrivals - for at least a month.

There's no such thing a safe source. Even other hobbyists. Or trusted vendors. You're only kidding yourself if you think so...

ALWAYS quarantine.

That's not necessarily true.. there are people that go out of their way to quarantine their fish to make sure that they are 100% healthy for the customer.

For example.. I QT my koi for a much longer time than any other fish because of the risk of KHV; However, I should have stated that is only when I buy from anywhere other than my local vendor. (which is 1 person who gets fish straight from the farm- he's a vendor for that farm). I do not QT his fish because he will not sell me a fish that is not healthy 100%.

But, there are very few people like that out there.

3 weeks minimum regardless of the source. Even if the source is highly trusted and by looking at the fish and seems 100% healthy, doesn't mean it can't be carrying something. And even if you go to a store and the fish you see and buy looks great, most places have a central filtration system and so if one fish in the store is sick you should assume all of them are.

Learned my lesson I always qt especially if it goes near any of my fav fish
