I just finished driving 2 hours to my lfs and bought 100 feeder comets how long do u think it would take for a 4'' piranha by himself in a 55gallon??

Are you going to put them all in at once?! If so your water is going to go to hell! I would suggest against that!

As for how long it lasts it depends. On the rare occasions I use feeders ( not gold fish or rosies ) my S. Mac. will eat only a few and then will proceed to kill the rest in the tank and leave them to waste! Other wise I suspect if you add the fish in just for a meal of 2 or 3 at a time, twice a week it would last longer.

Since you have to drive 2 hours to get feeders why not go to your local supermarket and get cheaper/healthier alternatives for your fish? A half pound of frozen shell on shrimp and a half pound of some sort of white fish fillet should last a while for your fish and be easier on your wallet!

feeders aint the best and dont put them all in there... ya it would look good but it would also turn the watter sh*tty.. if u need the feeders out them in a diff aquarium nest to ur tank like a 29 gallon... or sumtin but hey it ur choice

I put all the comets in a 25 gallon and they had a disease and my rbp got popeye and some other wierd disease and died. I have had this rbp for a year so it sucks. But this is the last time i buy 100 comets. Thanks for the info

Sorry to hear, feeders are full of diseases and unless you have a good source I would not use them.

Where are you located? Cause I happen to have 3 RBP 5-6" I need to take out of my tanks...

everytime I buy feeders Ill typically keep them acouple days, just to see if any die of "mysterious causes" an usually dose the tank with salt to try an combat anything they might have.

Try getting two 44g transluscent plastic storage bins, place sponge filters in them and fill them 1/2 way with dechlored water treated with 2 teaspoons salt per gallon. add 50 smallish feeders each and fed them lightly for a week, do water changes as needed. After a week if they are still healthy use one tub to feed your fish, at the end of that week restock that tub while you feed from the other one, Repeat the cycle, this will eliminate many of the problems associated with feeders

One quick addition to that, I learned the hard way, if you have to heat the tub make sure that you have something to keep the heater off the plastic so it wont melt through.
