Over there
So my big endli stopped eating a few weeks ago and I grew concerned. I read one of the stickies on here and it said that adults regularly go on a feeding strike and its nothing to be worried about. I was just curious when your guys' stop feeding, how long does it usually go for? Its been about 3 weeks now since mine last ate and the only big change that's happened was I got rid of all my other fish except him. Could that have caused him to stop eating? Thanks for your input guys.

My bichirs once stopped eating for weeks. It was fine.

What type of food are you giving him and what's your water temp?
Mine went on a 47 days hunger strike when he was about 8 inches....
Now he's pushing 20 inches.

I give him tilapia, shrimp and earthworms and the temp is 77F roughly.

Try using Live Food for a week. If your Bichir doesn't go after a live meal..... then you have a problem.

So I don't know what's up with him. Last night he actually tasted the food, but didn't eat it. Also, ever since I got rid of all the other fish, he's been extremely active. He swims around the tank constantly now and never really seems to rest. I'm going to try live feeders tonight so if that doesn't get him to eat, I don't know what to do. This is my favorite fish, that's why he's the only one I didn't get rid of and I really don't want him to die because of something going on in my tank that I don't know about. In case you guys need to know, he's somewhere around 15" and in a 150g by himself. I have 2 emperor 400's and the water is at 78F. Ammonia and Nitrites are at 0 and nitrates are roughly 20ppm. I'm doing small daily water changes to try and get the nitrates down because they were really high from when I had the other fish, but he was eating just fine back then. He stopped eating after I got rid of them all.

To get my ornate off of a hunger strike, I soaked some massivore pellets with some tilapia and he ate it. You could try that, and if that's not an option, you might just leave a little food in after lights out. Good luck and happy fish keeping!

That's what he used to eat but just stopped one day and would only eat frozen foods.
