seachems black florite take to clear up. my tank has been setup for 1 day and it is cloudy(white).

i didnt rinse mine at all. oops:wall::duh:

You might be in for a long hual then Sir-

Even on my 33 gal long I had a magnum 350 deluxe(setup for water polishing) and to big ac powerheads with the filter attachment on them also along with an emp 400
Still took mine that long....

Flourite is not fun stuff-I will eco complete next time....

well the black flourish isnt as bad as the regular ( red, brown, tan mix) was. that stuff had my tank dark for week. i can at least see through this stuff................kinda

When I got flourite gravel, it took me all day to rinse it out, and a week until my tank was clear. Now I am wondering how to clean the gravel. I have a massive team of bottom feeders, now. 3 catfish, 7 shrimp, and...wait for it...50+ snails:jaw-dropp along with a pleco. none of these things eat poop, though.

I use Fluorite Black Sand and it took about 24-36 hours to clear up. I rinsed it over 6-7 times and it still was cloudy.

What I did find helpful is one of those fine particle sponge medias (normally for the FX5). I placed one in my aquaclear and it helped. Like one of the other members mentioned, micron filters can also help too, but it'll still likely take a while since the substrate wasn't rinsed.

Just also note that if you have significant water movement, the particles will stay suspended and thus, it'll remain cloudy longer. However, once you get these particles out, then it won't be there later. :)

I never rinse any planted medias, I will never again purchase, nor use eco-complete. I use flourite in all my planted tanks, as it has a better nutrient balance than eco-complete. To clear up even basic flourite, just get a hydro sponge, and run it air driven. I do this every time, and it takes 4-6 hours to clear up a tank.

eco-complete is BAD. i think it raises ph really high. ive heard nothin but bad news from this product. anyway the tank is clear now. time to add plants:naughty:
