How long does it take Sunfish to aclimate to food ,or start feeding.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The only fish so far that I have had problems with getting on prepared food is my pickerel. He hasn't eaten anything since Sunday I think.... All of my sunfish including my bass and bowfin all took prepared foods the second they got in the tank.

Well, mine ate for the first time today, since i got them Monday. They took peices of worm,i was happy.I have'nt seen sunnies this skittish befor. O well,i'm shure they'll come around.:D:D:D:D:

good to hear keep it up and im sure they will come around. Mine was still skitish even after the first time it ate ,but in a few weeks it would come to the front of the tank every time i came near. but that makes it hard to take pics grrr!! So good luck and happy native keeping.

try not feeding them for a while or slowly mixing prepared food with the live food. in my experience thats what works

OVER FEEDING, can kill fish. If you want your new fishes in the future to eat, try freazed dried krill to get them to eat pellets, that's what i use to do in order to fating them up to feed my RTC. All new fishes the I had have in the past, usually takes them to get aclimated and started eating is 4-5days.

I hope the best to you and for your fishes:headbang2

Get them small, and you should have no problem converting them. I am talking less than an inch. Most lepomis will take flakes readily at that size.

I actually have no problem feeding them worms etc,but i want them to get the nutritional profile contained in prepared food. Agree?? I do. If live foods cover all the nutritional bases then cool,i have money to feed them, money no issue. Can you guys tell me if the nutritional profile of live foods is as good as prepared food. Thanx:D:D:D:D

Eating Sticks is a good thing
When 1st got my long Ear & Ozark Bass the only way i could feed them was to stand on the side of my tank in the dark so they could not see me and i would throw krill on the top of the water above them and they would hit it
This happen for about a week and then i said F#%* it if they can't eat in front of me then they can die
