i got a small senegal polypterus, about an inch in a half long, and was wondering how long would it take for it to get around 10 in. or so. also if there is any problem with feeding them baby crickets for protien.

Providing the maximumm growth rate of 1.5 inches per month 6-7 months should put it close
to 10 inches
You really would be better off with other foods bloodworms, ghost shrimp and a good quality pellet than crickets.Bichirs rely far more on thier sense of smell to locate food then thier vision-Anne

mine is growing pretty well in my 55 he is now about 5 inches long. I feed him sinking shrimp pellets, frozen bloodworms, and feeder rosies. I keep the water warm for faster growth (80 degrees F). Is yours brown yet or does it still have the two blue stripes? I bought a baby a few weeks ago that is about an inch long

try feeding diffrent foods aside from crickets your senegalus might have trouble finding crickets, would be better if the foods you feed your senegalus sinks at the bottom of the tank, like shrimps, muscles, smelts and pellets

my ornate grew about 1" in its first month, my senegales came in at about 6" and grown fatter also then longer and now that i have a 9" palmas i see that thickness comes before lenght, would anybody else agree? just a theory give me a holla :WHOA:

:headbang2

see what mean:
:woot:

yeah mine will eat alot then get really fat, then it looks like he streches out and gets skinny hehe

then he just keeps repeating the procsess :D

usually when the growth of the lenght of bichirs slow downs, it will start fattening up, just wait till your ornate fattens up
