for a uv sterilizer to kill a bad alage bloom in a 180 gallon tank ? i hooked mine up 12 hours ago and i only see a little improvement , am i just impatient ?

well honestly i havent checked the nitrates of late but i did a 50% water change 3 days ago , it stayed clear for a day or so and it got cloudy again/green , before i had the uv sterilizer i had turned off the light for 2 weeks fed them less ,and still ....green
