i just got a new tank and im wondering how long you guys wait until you fill up your tanks, im worried if i fill this thing up now, it would fall apart because the silicone hasnt cured correctly...

anyone?

Two to three days, typically.

so in three days itd be safe to fill it up?
if there was a "procedure" to filling up a new tank, that would be great.
its a 75 g, and it just got finished yesterday, so im not sure the sealant can take the weight of the water if i dont fill it up gradually.

Once the silicone doesn't smell too strongly, you should be safe. If it is built properly it shouldn't matter how quickly you fill it. One thing to remember is that the stand needs to be flat, level, and very rigid. Many new tank failures are caused by a bad stand rather than a bad tank.

thanks, ill probably be back in 3 days.

I see you are from the Philippines. I am guessing you have a local guy or company that built this tank. I would contact them to ask about their recommended cure time. The cure time for a brand new tank (just assembled) will vary depending on the product used, humidity, air temperature, etc.

I think 2-3 days is recommended on the tube. I usually wait 5 days just to be safe. Or maybe I'm just over cautious. :D

when i called the guys who made the aquarium, they just said it should be fine because it was made a few days before i got it, but it still smelled a little bit so im just going to wait until tomorrow...btw should i rinse it out first before the actual "filling"?
