How long for ARTC?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey bruce, an ARTC does not grow as big as a S. American RTC. as long as you dont powerfeed, you can keep an ARTC in a 4x2x2 for a long time. seeing as they grow up to 38" or a little larger in the wild, it probably wont grow as big in the home aquarium.
make sure to keep it solitary! they kill for the thrill.
its all preference, you can mix a giraffe cat but an artc will need a dedicated tank.

if you feed it alot it will grow rather quickly, with an attitude to mix.

i picked one up at 3-4" and 5months later he was 10" and aggressive as hell, even dominating my red devil. But there amazing cats and pretty good looking, and good cause they dont get ginormous like the saouth american type.

ooo and he should be good in there atleast a year i would say, they really only move when food is in the tank or at night to make there burrow bigger, cleaner.

I've had mine nearly a year (I got him at like 2") and he's barely ten inches. Of course I only feed him when I see him "hunting" (ussually about 2-3 times a week) I don't believe in "power feeding" my fish :). So yeah IME they grow very slowly but yeah look them up on planet catfish some of the pics you'll see might scare you :)

thats really slow no matter what, what size tank s he in?

cenecker, trust me, they do not grow very slowly. they grow pretty quick, not as quick as rtc and not as quick if you don't powerfeed. powerfeeding might make them grow faster, but will require more frequent water changes to clean out the extra poop.
the link in my Sig is for ARTC, opens in a new window.
