how long for cons

Why do you want to take them back? For one, lower the temp. Thats a hot tank. 2 give it time they may breed like rabbits but they aren't lightening fast. Thirdly are you sure you have a male and female? I know they are easy to sex but it is easily mistaken when a female isnt in the mood to not show orange. It is best to buy 6 specimens and wait for 2 to pair up. Then remove the 4. Otherwise it takes a bit for the two to pair up. I know because thats what I did when I first got my male and the first female. I introduced them at the same time and it took maybe a month and a half before spawning. Just be patient. Maybe feed live food I guess helps. Bloodworms are favorites.

Evil yard knome, you got it all wrong. Firstly, 78-80 is NOT too hot. I keep everything of mine at 78-80. Sexing cons is probably the easist to do so in the animal kingdom. Do not buy 6, just buy a pair. They should be at least 1.25" before breeding.

I thought that I could not tell my kribensis apart when I bought them as juveniles. At the time I did the best I could but had no confidence. I put all 6 in a 29 and put in a couple of cave structures for them to feel safe. Then I planted the whole thing heavily with silk plants (I know thats not really planting but what do I call it). Time went by and 2 of the fish took over the shelters that I had provided. Now they are 3 inches plus and I had given up on getting a mating pair although all 6 had paired off with no results. Last week the food in the tank wasn't being eaten as much as usual and I was thinking maybe water quality needed attention. Now the surprise. The pair that had not managed to get a cave of their own had set up housekeeping in a place between the heater, an artificial cave's back and a dense "planting" of silk plants. The 15 or so fry were completely unexpected but for a first try in a heavily populated tank, I think they did very well with such limitted protection.
