Hey guys got a question for ya. I've had a WC Weeksii in QT since May 27. When it arrived it had a red bump under its right pectoral fin, I wasn't able to see anything poking out of it like an anchor worm or anything but I treated the tank with parasite guard anyway.

1 treatment the 27th,
25% wc and redose on the 29th
25% wc and redose on the 5th

The red bump was gone in a couple days. Should I continue to treat for another week and hold in QT or release into the main tank?

Some people they qt. the fish for like a week some are less, imo i only qt for 24-48hrs. Once the fish start to eat and you think there is no more signs of bacteria or you think the fish is healthy, you can take them out of the qt.

He's been eating everything I throw in there from the minute it hits the water lol, and has gotten noticeably rounder since arrival so appetite has been no issue.

To be safe most would agree to qt for 3-4 weeks. That's a good time for some bug to rear its ugly head.

I think most poly keepers will add a new fish and put some meds into the tank as well. Can qt later and treat in case something does come up.

Either way has been successful. For your fish you can just add to the tank and monitor the area. Doesn't sound like an anchor worm to be honest.

It all depends on who you talk to.. some say a week to 2 weeks some say a month or longer.. personally I do about 2 weeks unless they are wild caught then I try to go a month just because WC can carry some nasties that don't show right away

I do a minimum of two weeks with the beginning of qt doing parasite treatment with three full doses of Tetra Parasite Guard. I then watch them to make sure they are eating and acting normal. If I have even the slight concern something maybe 'off' I will keep them in qt for up to a month.

I do not take risks because I have lost fish before by introducing new fish without qt. Lesson learned and now I always quarantine.

Thanks for all the feedback... I don't want to jump the gun but I'll also be leaving to go out of town for a week a couple days after the recommended 4 week QT period and I'd hate to drop him in there without being around to observe how he mingles with the other polys :o

Depends on how valuable the fish in the display tank are to you. QT or not, the risk is always going to be there when you introduce something new into an established tank, but a month or 6 of QT should greatly reduce the risk.

I prefer to QT for about 2 months, but they tend to end up staying in the QT for about 6 months or more

P.e.t.a rep will be contacting you shortly regarding the fish being kept in isolation for soo long with out mental and social stimulus hahaha
