I have almost 200 Dempsey fry,a little over 3 weeks old in a 20 gallon high tank.Tank is filtered with a AC70 and a old Penguin 200 with a bio wheel. Both have sponges over the intake tubes.I change 50% of the water every other day.Question is, how long do you think I can keep them in the 20 gallon before I have to set up an old 55 gallon I have and put them in there?

Agree with just1time, i would have never put them in a 20 when there is an empty 55 waiting to be used. Bigger is better for the fish!

I understand, but I really don't have any location to put the 55 at this time.If I keep up with the water changes and check water parameters will I be ok for a few months?

You'd be surprised at he bio-load those little bu$%#@s produce! I have about 30 fry in a 10 and Amm just spiked off the charts in the space of 2 days (luckily I use daily doses of Prime as a safeguard) so now I will be doubleing or tripling my fry tanks.

I use prime also(not daily use but every other day with water change)..I will keep an eye on the parameters. If they are off the chart like yours I think I will break out the 55 sooner than I wanted to.But like I said location is an issue.I already have a 90,46 and a 20 gallon that are up and running.I guess the wife will just have to understand.

Haven't confimed this, but I'm sure I read that Prime is active for about 24 hours, either way it's definitely the only reason I still have anything living in that tank!
Know what you mean about finding space, I think I've solved that part of the problem for me, but still have the problem of finding time to setup all these tanks (gonna need another 4 10g tanks myself at least (and thats just for my breeding program, add to that the other tanks I already have that are waiting to get setup and...............urghhhhh).

if they were just hatched, I would have said you've got about 2-3 months till you need to move them ... but you're already halfway there, so I'd say you should look to get that 55G setup -- and cycled -- in the next month or so ...
