How long is it ok to keep 3 1" dats in a 10-20g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well theres a big difference between a 10 and 20g tank, ~100%. anyways the best bet is to keep the water clean and feed em 3x's a day. you probably will want to move em out in about 3months (~3" or so).

No, definately not for life. Start with 33g and upgrade in 6 months.

How do you think this would work. I buy a 20g tank, maybe bigger if i can afford it with my cash load at the time. I grow them in that for 6-7 months maybe a tad less. Than i load them into the 55g with a Green terror and a poly. The GT is only 5" at the time. Do you think there will be territorial disputes? Than i sell the bigger one of the two dats on here or craigslist and keep growing the other one. When i finally have enough money i will upgrade to a 125-150g.

So your planning on two?id get 3 if possible buddy, also i dont know much about gt but my big IT doesnt bother any of my polys so yours should be fine.

I'm not sure how well the dats will get along with the GT. Most people say that you shouldnt mix dats with cichlids, and I never have to this point so i have no experience with that.
I'm assuming your getting an indo at 1". Indo's are territorial, especially since you're getting two + the GT (i dont know if GT's grow alot larger than 5" but it will probably grow faster than the Indo's) being territorial already probably isnt going to help.
I think a better solution for you would be to purchase just one 1" indo and keep him in the 20g for a longer time (maybe a year, who knows but its doubtful its going to reach 10" in one year).
If you think about how flooded the market is with baby indos its gonna be hard to sell it down the line for the amount of money you have contributed towards keeping it. you can already see threads of people trying to get rid of their babies and not as many being purchased anymore.
anyways good luck with whichever route you choose to follow.

Good point.
