I went to the Market and bought Fresh Shrimp, just had to take off the tail. In conversation with the dude, I asked him how long is it good for if I keep it in the freezer... he said about 5 days:WHOA:

Is 5 Days right? I dont eat to much seafood to know the time lines of it.

This is my plan... buy 5lbs, put 4lbs in a Zip lock bag and the other, chop it up and prepare it so I just take pcs of it off (from another ZipLock bag), hit it under some water and off the the tank.

I would like to buy about 5lbs at a time rather than small amounts but the guy had me question my master plan:naughty:

So, how long is Shrimp good for in the freezer?

Thanks

5 days for best human consumption freshness.
figure couple months

Alright, cool.
Just ganna do 2-3lbs at a time.
Rather be safe than sorry:D

I buy small 1lb bags of "Salad Shrimp", which is precooked and ready to eat for humans so I know it's ok for the fish. You are supposed to leave it in the freezer and thaw when ready to eat. So that is what I do when I feed the fish, just thaw it and feed. That small bag has lasted a month or more before because I vary the food a lot. So figure at least a month it should be good, unless the shrimp is vastly different but I doubt it.

From what I was told, any Cooked Market Shrimp is very bad to feed your fish.
Might want to double check on that, I was doing the same till a few members told me diff.

That is odd I have read the exact opposite. Oh well, I've been feeding the exact same brand type/brand for a couple years now with no deaths or anything odd.

I thought the uncooked was bad because of disease and such.

and by cooked I think they are just steamed or heated prior to freezing just like cocktail shrimp.

I forget, there is a thread that 2 members replied to me. It was on someone elses thread so Im having trouble finding it. Also when I just picked up my GoldWolf, the Vendor All-Happy told me the same thing

I guess its just diff opinions maybe. Im doing the market shrimp plus I notice my fish eat more of it... maybe cause it smells more like fish??
