how long on cons/FR's?

if i got a pair of cons bredding, how long could the fry be in there untill the parents start to eat them? how long till they won't eat them?
what about FM's?

all measures are with fully grown fish.
 
they shouldnt eat them if there good parents..my cons let the babies stay there till they spawnd again
 
but after the spawn they get territorial again?
 
Usually the parents do get territorial towards their young after they spawn again. I would pull any fry you want to keep when you see them preparing a nest site again.
 
i've never had any cons eat their fry in the 10 years i have had them, i usually seperate them when the fry are at 1-2cm.
 
hey ur convicts are like first time parents when they start to breed. they dont know all the tricks of the trade yet, and they may eat their fry prematurely, could be a few weeks or it could be right when they hatch. They could even eat their eggs... But after about 3 batches the parents should have all the right skills and shouldnt eat their babies anymore, and if they do it will be a month after they are eggs atleast...

I have had tanks in which dozens of of fry survived with their parents to sub-adult size....Some even started breeding in the same tank they were born in...My suggestion would be to seperate a bunch of fry and keep some with the parents to maintain their bond...
 
i just want to know cause im thinking of raising soem fry as feeders but i don't want 200 convict swimming aorund with nowhere to put them.
 
in my experience they shud be ok with the parents until whenever.

but this i noticed... the longer i let the latest batch with them, the female tends to hold the eggs LONGER than when i take out the lastest batch after 3 weeks,
she wud lay her eggs ryt away.
 
My Cons have been together for about 3 weeks now and have not breed at all is there something I am doing wrong? feed tons of blood worms and bio gold plus plettes.. I don't have a pot in the tank i just have a cave do I need a smooth surface or a pot? How long would you let them get before you feed them to your other fish ? I have a Oscar
