i will be going away for two weeks and wanted to know if my red tailed payaras and 8" barracuda will last for 15-16 days if i feed them alot before i leave, i also have a juruense catfish, four silver dollars, a jurupari and a blue phantom plec will they also last or should i put vacation food in tank?

I do not recommend that you over feed before you leave, because they may poop and have ammonia in tank, also if you starve them during this 12 days they will start picking on each other. So I suggest you to get a automatic feeder (floating pellets) programmed to once a day or once every other day, male sure to clean your filter and have the water changed before you leave.

Ummm, doesn't ammonia get taken up by the beneficial bacterial in the filter and broken down into nitrates? Then after the big feeding there's no more new ammonia and the water conditions stay the same until the next feeding.

I would do big feeding a few days before you leave. Then right before you leave do a big water change. They should be fine. Post your results and experience.

Your redtail payara will get hungry and starts attacking your other fish... You may come home with blind silver dollars and barracuda

That's what family and friends are for....too feed your fish when you are on holidays.

i wouldnt risk it. I agree thats what family and friends are for. Even if you have someone go over there every 3-5 days to feed and check up that would be fine. Let alone the feeding problem, but god forbid the air line gets unhooked or any other unforseen random occurrence you could come home to some dead fish. And in my experience Murphy is the ruler of all! if anything can happen it most likely will happen at the worst time. Def have someone come by to feed and look after your fishy's

there are two payara and ive left them alone for a week before with little probs ill only be gone a week then come back feed them and be gone maybe 6 days then be back agian they usually get fed once every 1 or two days the payaras leave the barracuda alone since he is somewat bigger still and stays near the top of the tank i will tho do waterchange then feed once before i leave but first week there will be someone else there but should i put vacation food in for the silver dollars, jurupari and blue phantom pleco?

why not if someones going to be there to feed them? if you're running any, don't forget to turn off your heaters when you go. lower temps = lower metabolism and less activity (less food required for energy). how big are your rtp's? i'd do what someone has said above, feed them heavily for a few days, not just on the last meal

Silver dollars, jurupari and blue phantom pleco may live without food for that certain period.

If it was one week I say fine but two weeks? I would get someone to help or drop them off at your local fish shop to babysit while your away/
