I leave lights on from 6:30 AM until around 11:00 PM. So around 16.5 hours! LOL, but the tanks are always algea free. :D

10 hours maximum. If your tanks are not planted, you're fine with 4-6 hours a day for viewing pleasure.

I think it's good to give fish a sense of time with the light just like we have with the sun. My non-planted tanks are on from 6pm to 12am for viewing and the planted tank is from 11am to 11pm.

I keep the lights off during the day, they get enough sunlight and seem to prefer it anyway. The only time I have the lights off is when I'm home and it's dark out, typically they go off around 11:00 PM.

It depends on your setup. I have plants so I have my lights on a timer for a total of 8-10 hours. Algae is very unpleasant and annoying so try not to keep lights on too long and continuously. I schedule lights on in intervals throughout the day, mostly to accomodate my viewing. Its on about 6-8am, 5-11pm for my main tank.
