Have you tested your water?
Yes
If I did not test my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be asked to do a test, and that water tests are critical for solving freshwater health problems.
Do you do water changes?

Background:
i transferred a squeaker catfish with a fungal infection which was he got fighting with another squeaker. I let the tank get a little dirty and soon after the starry night and hoplos catfish who originally occupied the tank got fin rot.

Treatment- i started to treat the fin rot witn melafix and completed the directions for however many days it speciefied however the fin rot continued to progress on my starrynight cichlid at a noticeable rate.

The tank has been getting treated with erythromycin for 3 days now according to directions.

Question- the fin rot is still progressing how long should it take for the erythromycin to kick in? Should i do another treatment? Should i switch to another medication?

Should i switch to another medication
Welcome aboard
Don't switch or add any other medication until someone with experience with Erythromycin chime in.

I would treat per the directions and not stop it early. You can mix Maracyn-2 (minocycline) which treats for gram negative bacterial infections. Erythromycin treats gram positive bacterial infections.

Stop melafix treatment. It's very weak for infections that have taken hold.
