How long do you guys keep them? How long do they live in the wild? I do some search, it seems the Rhom are quite an oldie especially when we look at that large guy in youtube, what about the RBP and the Cariba?

For me, I visit the the P tank lin Phuket public aquarium ast 20 years ago and always recall those fascinating creature. I recently visited them again this year, what I recalled is they look pretty much the same and they are doing the same like staying still and all look at one direction at the front glass panel. (Ofcause they probably replace some speciemen, but I will try to call and query about this due to curiosity)

i think everyone's goal is to keep them as long as they can, although many lose theirs within a few years. they say that they can live more than 25 years in the wild.

any number of things... they can die quickly due to a ph or temperature crash, disease, parasites, ammonia spikes, etc... or they could just have a shortened life caused by poor nutrition or water quality, stress, etc..

^how do you get a ph crash? and do you use peat as filter media? i was talking to my dad about making water softer and he said something about adding a certain amout of muriotic acid to a certain amount of water, i wouldnt try this but the ph is high where im from, what would you do to lower it?

i don't use peat in my filters... if you want to naturally lower your ph, add some driftwood. driftwood leeches tannic acid out over time, not enough to cause concern, but enough to lower your ph a bit and keep it steady.

One way of lowering the ph is using dozing of CO2 especially for plan tank, however I am not certain that will be ok for the P...Only witness those small shoal of neon for instance that consume less O2 to compensate with high level of carbon dioxide, any comment?

Bris, someone over at pfury reported that their piranha started slowing down after being in captivity 20 years or so. Still alive I believe.
