How long till a sponge filter is seeded?

I have a fully filtered 10 gallon tank that I'm planning on being the temporary tank. The 40 breeder that is going to be the permanent tank is cycling right now. My question is if I put a sponge filter in the ten gallon tank, how long until I can remove the canister filter in the ten gallon, and put it on the 40 breeder to cycle the 40 quickly? I'm assuming I'd be fairly safe seeing as the sand has bacteria in it, and it's fairly packed with plants. Ideally I would switch the filter by Friday
