Had a 7 inch indo dat in my tank with my aro for around a month now all it does is Lay against the glass n be very boring he eats briefly then goes back into his corner. There are no hiding places in my tank and the tank is a 5x2x2 water is always pristine he just doesn't do a damn thing. Will he eventually stop this or is it always gonna do it. I dont care even if it aint stable it would just be nice if he swam around

maybe try adding a tank mate or 2, a couple of large silver dollars or tin foil barbs - how large depends on the arrow!, just to show the indo that its safe to move around and give him some confidence......

It may be forever.

That is why, personnally, I find Dats disappointing and boring, once the hype is gone...

Tinfoils might work ill get a few around 4 inchs

its worth a shot :).....it'll take time though, but once it realises it has competition for food i think it might get braver and bolder....time n patience

Well, it did not work for me. I added some tinfoil barbs and silver dollar, they are still hiding or laying against the aquarium.

But if you dim the light, they will swim around the aquarium. I guess I have to turn off the light to see them swim around aquarium.

I've had dats "hide in the shadows" for months. Some just take a long time to feel comfortable in new environment. I've found lighting to b big factor, they seem to prefer it very dim. Also, plants may help, they use their stripes to camouflage them amongst plants in wild.
On top of lighting, decor/hiding places, dither fish, mainly comes down to patience with them. After I added last Datnoid 2yrs ago, some r active n stable most time. So only part day, other part they do the datnoid lean. Should become more active in next few months

Put in some big rocks n some plants about two weeks ago seems to have started to perk up a bit now hovers behind the plants instead of just doing the lean and his colour is starting to show. Few more weeks/months should hopefully get even better. Was starting to think he'd never wake up lol
