How long does it take for an L25 get good colouration?

I have just a few days ago, got a 5" L14 and a 4" L25.

The L14 is beautiful, everything you would want from an exotic pleco, contrasting white spotted body, and vibrant lemon yellow on all seven points.

The L25 is not so exciting. It has got some creamy pink on the tail, but certainly not red or crimson. And it is not on all seven points.

Is this how it is going to carry on, or do they reach a certain size when the colour comes out?

Its diet now includes lots of ghost shrimp, which ought to bring out red.

No idea regarding pleco-types, but I think there are plenty of fish that take more than just a couple days to completely colour-up after a location transfer, especially if shipping is involved.

Do ghost shrimp contain colour-enhancing compounds?

Depends on quality and collection point. All L25 don’t always get those amazing colors or become 7 pointers you see online. At 4” you should already see some good color if it was a nice one. At 6” it will become even more clear.

Here are some decent L25 Xingu that are 3”-5” at Freshwater Exotics:

If you want a really nice one, you’ll have to pay up for an L25 Sao do Felix

It would be better to pay more for a nice one than grow cheaper one with bad color
