Was just wondering roughly how long it takes for a ray to shed its old stinger. Does the new stinger have to be completely in before the old one will fall off? Seems like its taking forever..im paranoid about it and check him everytime i walk by cuz im afraid its gonna come off and hes gonna stab himself w/ it. The threads where that has happened have freaked me out i guess.

Mine are shedding about every 5 months.

He was sold to me as a WC flower/tiger hybrid. I got him last april at around 7"-8" and you could barely see the stinger at all. It didnt take long for the stinger to get what looks like alittle over 3". Hes now alittle over 11" and the new stinger started coming in under the old one i would say mid december maybe alittle earlier. Another half inch and the 2nd stinger will be as long as the first.

In my experience it was still a month or two after the new stinger was as long as the old. I would imagine that can varry greatly from shed to shed. I think the cases where rays have impailled themselves are very rare and as long as you keep an eye out for it you shouldn't have anything to worry about

I would say about every year a new one would emerge and push out the old one. Sometimes multiples can stay around for a long time as well.

Ive got one that is growing a new one also and will shed the old one. Its been about 3 weeks since Ive noticed and its about 2/3 the size of the old one rt now. One of my male Motoro's shed one about two months ago, and Ive yet to find the old one in the tank, but Im still looking.. Just hope I find it first before they do...
