I've got a pot in a bucket and it turned the water orange. Is this bad? How long should I soak the thing before I put it in the tank? I'll keep changing out the water for now, but has anyone else encountered this?

never had that happen to me... rinsing them off once has always done the trick..

i must have 15-20 orange clay pots in my tanks, from the small 6" ones to a big 12" in my 250. never once have i had it change the water one tiny bit. i rinse them good to get the dust from the store off and in the tank they
are you sure you got just plain 100% terra cotta pots? theres most likely hundreds of MFK'ers that have used these pots with no ill effects

yeah, I believe you might not have true terra cotta pots. I've never done anymore than just rinse them off with hot water and toss 'em on in. I get mine from walmart at like a dollar a piece, if that.
same with mine. i've used cheap pots from wally world, lowes, and even some roofing tiles, and never did anything but give them a quick rinse.
