i do believe that today is week 3-4. however it could be longer. but i have been finding fry in my tank with white spots on their backs. not really sure if it is from my socolofi or guppies, but they do not look like normal guppy fry so i am just curious how long she will hold before she releases the eggs/fry?

Your socolofi has been holding for less than a week.....

How long malawi cichlids keep the fry in their mouth depends on some factors.

With a temperature of around 25 degrees celcius, the fry should be fully developed in about 3 weeks. If the female thinks it is safe she will release the fry for the first time around this time. If she is kept in an aqaurium with other fish she will keep them as long as possible to protect them from the other fish.

on the contrary. it is true that it hasn't been as long as the time frame i posted. i was tired when i posted the thread and put the wrong thing. but it has been almost 2 weeks since i first noticed the bulge in her mouth.

well i have noticed some odd fry that were hanging around her. they had white backs. much unlike the guppy fry i have. and she got really mad when other fish approched her. so i took the fry out of the tank and am keeping them in a separate place now.
