How long will a 3.5 Parrot be able to use 30 gallon?

I am new to them and cichlids in general. At what size should a switch be made?

A single parrot should be fine in a 30 gallon. Their spine deformity keeps them short and slow swimmers. If you feel it gets to the point where it needs more space, go ahead an upgrade.
