I got my Bichir on wednesday. So i havnt had him for a week yet. I know sometimes when a fish is still new, it wont eat.

But i dont know. He swims around and doesnt seem afraid of anything. He doesnt even go in the PVC pipes, he just swims in the open all day.
But each time i feed he doesnt take.

I've even used a PVC pipe and the food has dropped on his head and he doesnt go for it. So its not like he hasnt had the oportunity.
I feed all the fish in my tank the beefheart recipe and they all go APE for it. Its got all the nutrition they could ever need and it tastes great apparently.
I heard Bichirs dont have the greatest eyesite, but they have a good sense of smell.
Well this stuff smells alright.

Are they like other fish that eat one type of food and when you introduce a new one, they dont want it?

He seems perfectly healthy and active otherwise. I know he doesnt get that much, because even if i hide it at the mouth of one of the PVC's, the other fish find it before he does.
But like i said, he has plenty of oportunities to eat, he just wont take it.

SORRY FOR THE NOVEL> :(

what are you feeding him?

He's feeding beef heart according to his post...

Die Fledermaus, Is it possible that he was being fed live food before you got him? If so you might have to use the skewer method to get him going...

Take a long skewer and spear whatever your wanting to feed on it. Then wave the food in a "lifelike" manner...he might jump it. I converted several fish from live to prep this way over the years...

Ok, maybe i'll try some earthworms. And i'll try the skewer idea also. Good points and ideas. Thanks ;)

it it is to high in protien... is red meat good for your heart??? no its not and its not good for fish hearts either

About the beefheart. I dont understand. I've heard from so many other forums and aquarists that the beefheart recipe is very healthy.
No offense or anything, but you're the only one i've heard say otherwise.
I'm not saying you dont know what you're talking about. Dont take this the wrong way, its just that i've heard otherwise most often.

Does anyone else think that beefheart is not a good daily food?

I mean, it's not just beefheart. Its beefheart, beef liver, shelled peas, spinach, omega one pellets, prawns, vitamin supplements and a few garlic drops. Its all blended together and frozen into cubes. I make myself.

Again, no offense. I'm just making sure before i stop my whole method of feeding.

Try target feeding it bloodworms -Anne

try frozen Bloodworms, or Krill, Mine was fed live an frozen food before I got him now he eats only frozen Krill.

I agree, he'll eat when he gets hungry enough, and the target feeding of blood worms or earth worms should do the trick. My new 2" senegal wasn't too keen on sinking pellets (maybe too hard, he sure chewed a lot) but really liked the earthworms. Good luck!
