Hello; In the distant past many tanks were set up with no powered aeration or filtration at all. I ran a few that way. I ran many tanks for decades with only air operated filters, air stones and UGF. I now use powered filters but also have at least a bubbler of some sort in each tank.
Over the decades the loss of electric power or the failure of a powered filter has occured many times. Many of the early commercially available powered filters were very unreliable. The stuff I have now has proven to be good for a long time.
I have found that stocking tanks at a level where the fish can survive many hours (or a few days) without any electric power to have often paid off. Stocking at a level that requires a constant powered system for basic fish survival has proven to lead to disaster for many. At the very least having a good air pump and some sponge filters or bubblers on hand can keep tanks going for many days/weeks.
Good luck
