How long without food before they eat ?

I am trying to get my smallmouth bass and pumpkin seeds to eat pellets but after 5 days without food I always give in .

they will now eat frozen food but not the pellets.

The bullhead eats them right up but I suspect a bullhead would eat most anthing.

If i don't feed them will they eventually eat ?

i can't see any animal literally starving to death while food floats by ?

if my friend can train his redbellies to eat pellets then i'm sure I can get these to also ?

and on anotehr not my sturgeon died three days ago for unknown reasons.

You can go another week with no food so don't worry about it. Also the sturgeon probably died from over heating if you did not have a chiller. They are VERY sensative to heat.

but surely they wouldn't starve themselves to death before they ate the dried pellets would they ?

No. Those kinda fish LOVE food and WILL eat. If they start seeming sluggish and not hungry and what not then you have to worry a lil bit.

Ive tried numerous times to get my smallie on pellets, but it wont take them regularly. Sometimes it will eat them, but only after they have been in the tank for a few minutes and have softened up a bit. I think that they are just more picky eaters than many other species.
