So I want everyone who is not in their first apartment or in college to go back to their college, bachelor days or first apartment/house when you were trying to cut cost every way you can.

Its getting into winter and I don't want to take any more loans out that I do not have too!

Gas is frickin expensive :nilly::cry:!!

What was the longest you went into winter without heat??

Last year we waited a while, probably didn't turn the heat on until mid/late November. But last year I lived with three other people that helped the cost be diluted out. The first month wasn't that much either so we pumped the heat, then got the first bill which was over 350$!!! (more than one of our rents!! only 275$) So we kept the temp at like 60 degrees the rest of winter!!

Now I live in my own apartment. The bottom floor of a house. Trying to make it as long as possible without heat :headbang2.

So what is the longest you went without heat in the winter?? Post location too. Florida doest count!!

Haha, I am curious as well. I crashed at my boys house last night, as we had an econ exam today. Slept on his couch, it was FREEZING because he refuses to turn on the gas....

We tried one year when I lived in an old farm house to not have heat but it got so cold in the house that we had to suck it up and get gas. MN has a law that states that even if you cannot afford the gas, they are required to give you gas for your heater. Not sure if the winters get as cold in Pittsburgh as it does in Minnesota.

We can make it most of a mild winter with just a couple of space heaters. We have a 4 bedroom house and have all the rooms closed off as all the kids have left. Now we heat only 4 rooms total. Computers and fish tanks keep one room heated (year round).

mid to late november, but than i do not like to be cold, set temp at 78 yr round

I think I'd at least get an electric space heater.. I've never went without heat.. except for when I was a kid..

I'm going to try and hold out till at least mid/end of November. I am kind of in a contest with my old house mates to see who can go the longest. The three of them are still in the house we were at last year. Their determined to go until next semester, after Christmas break. I don't think Ill last that long.

Went all winter without running the heat. 4 bedroom apt but we were on the middle floor so we were sandwiched from all sides. each of us had heated blankets at night when it got chilly. this is at WVU (morgantown, WV)

I'm in FL, lol. Gotta love 75F winters
