How long do you know when to reseal a tank and what are the possibilities of a tank cracking when you don't reseal it in time?

one of my tanks is nearly 9 years old and is still holding water
tank might leak but not crack if the sealant gets loose

The only time you need to reseal a tank is if it's leaking. Otherwise, don't fix what isn't broke.
