How loud is everyones DIY overflows? My brother is moving and I might grab his 20g Long if he decides to part with it. My wife prefers extremely quiet as in canisters. Tank is a 75 so the 20 would be perfect. Here is the break down that I can think of:

20g Tank Free!
Egg Crate $10 2x4 sheet
Scrubbies $10-15
Glass or acrylic for spacers $15
Mag Drive 5 Pump $58
Gamma 25watt UV (need:D one anyways) $120
Eheim Spray bar Kit $19
DIY 1" Overflow $10
1/2" Tubing 25ft $15
Misc $10

Total ~ $272 For a sump. would probably hard plumb it from the overflow to the tank.

What is everyones opinions? I currently have an FX5 and find it almost too much current in the 75 the pair of Jacks don't really like it either. What is everyone opinions, if all else fails I will just hook a UV too the FX5 but by the time I replace media/ pads, tubing, UV to handle the flow, etc it is going to cost more. Only problem is it almost needs to be dead quiet.

Or I may find a 40 breeder as it would fit perfect under the tank.

You may have to tune the inlet to the overflow a little or put an 90* ell on it (a little harder to prime, but).

Go with the 40g, your pump is going to give you about a 6x turnover.

Is the tank overstocked?

You forgot pre-filter material, poly-fil or Air conditioner filter material (pre-cut or by the roll)

You can make a spray bar for $1.25 :D

Don't forget you can order the scrubbies from Doitbest hardware by the case for $12. http://doitbest.com/Scouring+Pads-Do+it+Best+Imports-model-10044-doitbest-sku-632989.dib

Tank only has a pair of Jack Dempseys and a Pair of Bristlenose Plecos. Not overstocked at all.
