I'm thinking of putting a 60 gallon in my tank and using an AC 110 filter. I'm planning on stocking it with 2 uaru and 3 severums. Will it be so loud that it's a bad idea to put in my room? Is it loud enough to always notice that there's a filter there or are they really quiet and not too noticeable?

as long as you keep the water level high enough it will be pretty quiet. i used to have 2 60's in my room both with powerheads and ac110s running and it barely bothered me with the water level high enough.

I have an AC 110 and AC 70 running in my room, as Joey said, the higher the water level, the less the noise.

But IMO, I actually like the sounds it makes, relaxing ;)

if u can use another option id do that ... i have a 50 gallon and a 10 gallon in my room at the moment (there will be a 220 in there tomorrow!!!!!) but anyways i have a hob on the 10 still .. which is a biggg pain in the ass. i used to have two hob's on the 50 gallon but only lasted a week .. lost alot of sleep so switched to canister .. sounds not too bad during the day. when its time to sleep .. ull be kicking yourself. trust me. my gf stopped sleeping over till i got the canister because she cudnt sleep. the one night she tried to .. i woke up and everything was silent and i assumed power went but no .. she cudnt sleep for hours so got up and unplugged the filters hahaha.

this is true also .. if u keep the water level really high it isnt so bad but ull still notice it. either way if you can go with a canister at all .. its worth the extra money and not eat lunchs out for 3 weeks ... thats what i did.

They can be pretty quiet if the water level in your tank is high enough, and if the cover isn't rattling. However, I wouldn't call them silent. They still make enough noise to be noticed in the same room.

they are silent.. the "waterfall" that all hob filters make is where the noise comes from..
mounting a piece of sponge to the top of the waterfall will let the water flow into the tank insted of falling into the tank..
