There are plenty of available apps out there that determine decibel levels around the house. Download one or two and see just how noisy your system is. When you post up the numbers post what equipment your running as well. For myself, my tank averages around 50-55 decibels when I sit on the couch 8-10ft away from the tank with doors on the stand shut. Right beside the tank around 55-60. Inside the sump compartment 75 ish. Equipment that runs constantly: 3 wavemakers, 3 lighting systems with fans, protein skimmer and the sump/overflow. When all fans in the room are going, windows open I read around 71 DB on the couch as the ceiling fan is noisy.

Feel free to shut your system down for a second to determine background noise. Around 45 at my place.

A very dumb question from my end ... is there a mobile app to determine or measure decibel levels ??

Interesting... I just had to try it out of curiosity. Haha

Standing in my fish/sun room (4 tanks running) is 42

In front of my 135 is 44. In the sump is 48.
Pump is an aquastation DC5000

65g is 46
Two hob filters. One aqueon quiet flow and the other is topfin

75g is 49
Two hob filters. One topfin and the other doesn’t have a brand on it. And I can’t remember what it was.

And 29g is 45.
One aqua-tech hob filter.

If I leave the room and go into my living room (right around the corner) it’s 35.

Kinda interesting. I have a feeling I’ll be messing with this every now and then.

300 gal with 100 gal sump System completly turned off 41, pumps off 49 (air pumps running), system running 52/53
Equipment
2 dct 12000's.
1 ap300 air pump
1 ap150 air pump

120 gal

Running 56 off 47 (tank is in the garage)

1 whisper 400 air pump and 2 ac 110's

Interesting thread. I been putting off fixing the one noisy overflow. I think i'll get around to doing it now to see how much quieter i can make the 300.

Different phones will give different readings, some are miles apart. We actually tested a few of these apps last year on various phones at work.
I figured that would be the case. Still cool to have a baseline though.

Are there any apps you found to be more accurate than others ?
