How many ATF required for a successfull shoal?

Can anyone tell me how many ATF are required for a shoal that will coexist? These angry lil minnows seem expensive.... Really would like to have a little group but not looking to take out a loan on them either, as I don't wanna have to sell more then 1 ray.

Can a group of 2-4 work or is this a half dozen plus kinda situation?

Has no one here really ever had an ATF shoal?
 
I had 6 VATFs at one point. All about 4-6" and they died one bye one.

I know ExoticFishGirl had a few bigger ones in a 100gl wide (maybe 6-8 VATFs and 5-7 GATFs all together). He was selling so im ASSUMING he didnt have them for much time there. They were nipping eachother.

The only person that I can think of is.... Chompers (I think this is the guy)
900 gl plywood tank with about 10 or so ATFs together. Biggest was around 18" or so

I think it is in WW's
 
Sounds about like a Dorado shoal.... Start with a bunch, watch them get picked off 1 by 1 and at the end there's only 1.

Thought it was tigerfangs or something like that with the ply tank. Just remeber the huge GATF controversey, it was epic.

I'm goin through Characin withdrawls and have a huge tank going up soon (750 gallon). Figured I probobly better start growing something for it. My PH kills off any hopes of Armatus. Dorado seem fine as I still have one kicking.... Figured the ATF would be the best choice due to my high PH....
 
Its worth a try... personally if your going to do the ATF thing, I HIGHLY reccomend VATF! If going with a shoal, a Goliath would def be sweet to see in a group. IMO, VATF out weights the rest of the Family :drool:

Its like the Payara Fam... Armatus is the best n u work your way down :D

would agree!! Just look at that avatar!!
 
Now ihv even mixed my armatus into 13 inches GATF, got some fighting armatus themselves and kelberi PB, I took the risk and throw everything in, including a pair of motoro, but gatf itself is totally ok despite biggest fish inside but most timid, Armatus smallest took centre of tank. Take a vid show u guys
