Need help, about to purchase sand for aquarium 10 feet long 3 feet wide, sand comes in 50 pound bags if I want to cover take at least 3/4 to an inch high, about how many 50lb bags of sand will be needed? Any formulas for this?
Thanks in advance.

i'd say around 500# but that just a guesstimate that randomly popped inside my head so not sure lol

if 50lbs i would probably guess around 8-10 bags but that just a guesstimate, but thats a lot of sand to clean, oh and when filling put a plate in on top of the sand and pour water on to it so it doesnt get murky good luck

Yes I figured about 7bags for 3/4 to an inch of coverage, but I was trying to get as close as possible because the guy has to order a couple more bags if its more than 5bags, and if I don't need more than that and I buy it and don't need it, I can't get my money back, I can only get store credit, not to mention its about an hour plus drive to get it. So I am trying to make one trip and get exactly what I need.

I put 250 lbs of very fine gravel in my 8 ft by 3 ft tank. That gave me roughly 1/4-1/2 inch coverage. I think 10 would be good for your tank for 3/4 inch coverage but even then that may not be enough.

I think 5-6 bags of 50lb would be what you are looking for..

I used 175lb's to give my 8x3 tank a nice 1" layer.
