This July, I plan on stocking fathead minnows, tadpoles, snails, crayfish and bluegill, and then adding the bass the following spring when the pond actually thaws. Hopefully the minnows can feed off of the current population of insect larvae and bloodworms, the snails can feed off the detritus, the crayfish can feed off of plants and detritus, and the bluegill can feed off of all 3. Then i'll have a stable food chain and population of crayfish, snails, minnows, and bluegill for the bass to prey on as far as food goes. Now for the filtration, i know nothing about it, or what i would need.A boatload. Depends more on filtration and food how many that pond can sustain
Yeah, probably, most people are familiar with either large 1/2 farm ponds or small 300 gallon ornamental ponds. 8000 gallons is kind of in between. Go with the koi rule, one inch per 30 gallons.Maybe because there aren't allot of people who are doing what you are attempting. So keep notes and let us know how it works out.
