How many Cichild ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How many fish to put in a tank depends on a few things - size of fish at maturity, type and amount of filtration, frequency and volume of water changes. Without knowing this it is hard to say how many fish it would be safe to house in the tank.

^^;; I've got 100 G tank w/ 50 fishes without any problems. I have 400G worth of filtering running though. My fishes are 4-6 inches and I do Weekly 20% water changes.

If they are small sized african cichlids this is very doable. They tend to do better in larger quantities because it spreads the aggression. If they are SA/CA type cichlids your looking for trouble doing that many as they tend to grow bigger and want more space.

One other thing, if your brother is going to have ~50 mbuna (I'm assuming based on average adult size) then he will need a fair amount of rock work or some other form of sight break. "Overcrowding" the mbuna helps to spread aggression but the weaker fish will still be picked on the most unless they have somewhere to hide for a break.

Sounds like you guys are off to a good start, or at least know what you need to be doing. Good luck.
