Hi,

I am starting to look for and as I find them large clown loaches for my new build. We are doing a 520 g tank (96" x 42" x 30").

I see tanks out here with a couple in there and also see some with a ton.

What is a good realistic number I should shoot to get?

Tankmates will be some geophagus cichilds, discus or severums, couple stingrays and potentially some angelfish.

I want enough where they feel comfortable but also not crowded.

Thanks!

I'd get about 7-10. Too big of a school would cause the other fish stress I would think. But then again I hear some people refuse to put them with discus cause they will attempt to eat the slimecoat off their sides, just what I hear;)

3 should be the minimum number. Do not buy just one or two. They are far from being solitary at all. I don't advise combining discus and loaches together with the exception of kuhli loaches. Your discus may not take well to their "whiskering" antics. Angels however are more tolerant to the loaches' antics so if possible, switch discus to angels instead.

Ask the stingray forum for loach compatibility. The rest are fine.

i would watch the rays, they would love a loach/geo snack

i have 6 discus with 4 clown loachs together n they do great. i just hate when the loaches they hiding under/behind the fx5 x-take tube. i also have 2 black aros in the tank a red severum n a marble motoro...discus size range from a 6 inch - 3 inch n the loaches r 3 to 5 inch

I have over 20+ in my 40 breeder ranging from 2.5"-6". They already murdered 2 of my discus, so I finally moved my remaining discus to my 55 gallon.....I agree they are like a pack of killing wolfs....
