I'm going to try setting my 75 back up soon. I'll be using pool filter sand, I got rid of all my gravel. What I am trying to figure out is how many convicts to use to cycle the tank with. If convicts aren't good, I won't use them, but I did want to keep some convicts as natural feeders. I have 2 Emperor 400's on the tank, but I was an idiot and forgot to put the bio wheels in some water to preserve the bacteria. I might get some NiteOut to speed the process up. I thought at least 4 convicts to get the proess started. What do you think?

Why not do a fishless cycle, much easier on you and them. As far as the bio wheels go it wouldn't have mattered if you had put them in water or not without ammonia (there food source) the bacteria would have died anyways.

Just throw a couple in there dont need many.

Get some bio material from another tank and throw a few convicts in.

Matt

this.. and imo 1 pair will get the job done. theyll be breeding and increaseing the bio load by the time the bio has gotten a good kick start.

Get some Tetra Safestart, add it to the tank and add fish at the same time. Job done :)

I am actually trying to get the tank cycled, so that I can start either a carpintis and a chocolate, or maybe grammodes. Depends on which is easier, and maybe cheaper, to get. I thought that a few convicts left in there might make a good natural food source. I've had problems in the past with cycling, and want to do it right this time.
